The watcher in the water by Tankred

The model

Finally we came to Moria in our Moria campaign. I am playing the campaign in the hobby book with Ertz, a friend of mine. Therefore I painted the model which was on my to do list for a very long time.

The watcher is a Keramin cast, which is a kind af plaster of paris. It is very hard and durable and really detailed. The teeth are provided separtly, you should glue them after painting. I bought two additional arms in order to have a nicer look in the display case.

The body was designed by Tombadil (Thomas Kramme) the tentacles  were done by Thomas Maier.  The quality of design made me really pleased. It was so realstic that it looked really disgusting on the painting table. Cool!

I glued the tentacles on washers which had an inch in diameter.  I wanted to have a flat base since the models will stand on a lake in the future.

Painting

As a basis I used the painting instructions provided in the Fellowship hobby book. The body was painted with Black und Dark Angels Green (Dark Green) then inked with Dark Green Ink (by Vallejo Game Color) and drybrushed with Goblin Green (Camo Green). The brushing revealed a really nice skin surface.

The inner surface of the tentacles were painted with a mix of Codex Grey with Dwarf Flesh. Then it was inked with Brown Ink. Afterwards I added White to the Codex Grey/Dwarf Flesh mix in order to highlight.

The water was painted with Dark Angels Green and Prussian Blue bemalt. Afterwards I used water effects by Vallejo in order to model the waves. The effects dried milky therefore I used some blue ink on it.

Gaming with the watcher

During the Hamburgian Tactica convention I could play the scenario contained in the hobby book. I liked it very much, unfortunately I lost with the Fellowship since only four could escape to Moria.

The scenario was well balanced and I hope that I can win with the good side sometime.

There is a similar scenario from the White Dwarf wich also includes rules for the watcher body. The scenario from the hobby book  just mentions the tentacles. For sure this one is worth a try.

You can buy it at Thomarillion for 24,95 ? (approx 17£).
